Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we get asked most often.

About the AI
Is the AI legally compliant?
+

LilyHR is designed to give accurate guidance grounded in Canadian employment legislation, including the BC Employment Standards Act, Ontario Employment Standards Act, Canada Labour Code, and provincial human rights codes.

That said, AI guidance is not legal advice. Employment law is complex and fact-specific. For high-stakes decisions or anything with litigation potential, you should speak with a qualified employment lawyer.

Every AI response on LilyHR includes a disclaimer to this effect.

How accurate is the AI?
+

LilyHR is powered by Anthropic's Claude. The AI is configured specifically for Canadian employment law, so responses reflect the right provincial rules.

That said, AI can make mistakes. We recommend:

  • Treating AI guidance as a well-informed starting point, not a final answer
  • Verifying specific legislative numbers (minimum wages, notice periods) against official government sources for current figures
  • Using the HR Consultant marketplace for high-stakes decisions
What AI model powers LilyHR?
+

LilyHR uses the Claude API, configured with a system prompt built specifically for Canadian HR and employment law. We update it regularly as legislation evolves.

We continuously review and update our AI configuration to improve response quality and ensure alignment with current legislation.

HR & Professionals
Is LilyHR a replacement for HR professionals?
+

No. LilyHR makes HR guidance more accessible. It's not a replacement for professionals who provide it.

Think of it as the layer below a human professional. It handles routine questions, drafts documents, and flags risks. HR professionals can then focus on the work that actually needs them.

When a situation goes beyond what the AI should handle, a harassment investigation, a contested termination, a potential tribunal claim, LilyHR tells you clearly and connects you with an accredited professional.

When should I use a human consultant instead of the AI?
+

Use a human HR consultant when:

  • You're terminating a long-tenure employee or someone in a protected group
  • A harassment or discrimination complaint has been made
  • You're conducting a formal workplace investigation
  • An employee has indicated they may seek legal advice or file a tribunal claim
  • You're dealing with a constructive dismissal situation
  • The stakes are high enough that getting it wrong would be costly

LilyHR will proactively flag these situations and prompt you to connect with a professional.

Data & Privacy
Is my data confidential?
+

Yes. Your conversations, documents, and account information are private to you. LilyHR staff cannot read your conversations. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

We do not sell, share, or rent your data to third parties. We comply with PIPEDA, Canada's federal private sector privacy law.

Is my data used to train AI?
+

No. Your conversations are never used to train, fine-tune, or improve AI models, not ours, and not Anthropic's. We have enterprise-level API agreements that specifically exclude training data use.

We collect only anonymised, aggregated usage analytics (e.g. which features are used) to improve the product. This data contains no personal information and no conversation content.

Can I delete my account and data?
+

Yes. You can request complete deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing privacy@lilyhr.ca. All personal data is deleted within 90 days of the request. Backups are purged on a 30-day cycle.

Canadian Employment Law
Does LilyHR follow Canadian employment law?
+

Yes. LilyHR is built specifically for Canadian employment law. It covers:

  • BC Employment Standards Act
  • Ontario Employment Standards Act
  • Alberta Employment Standards Code
  • Canada Labour Code (federal jurisdiction)
  • Provincial Human Rights Codes
  • Common law obligations (reasonable notice, wrongful dismissal)

This is not a US HR tool adapted for Canada. LilyHR was built from the ground up for Canadian employment law by someone with direct HR experience in the Canadian context.

Which provinces does LilyHR cover?
+

LilyHR currently provides strongest coverage for British Columbia, Ontario, and federal jurisdiction. Alberta guidance is also included. We are expanding coverage to all Canadian provinces and territories as the platform matures.

Free and Starter plans include single-jurisdiction support. Growth and Pro plans include full multi-jurisdiction and federal coverage.

Pricing & Plans
Is there a free plan?
+

Yes. The free plan includes 5 AI queries per month, general HR advice, and one document template, no credit card required. It's designed to let you try LilyHR before committing to a paid plan.

Can I cancel or downgrade at any time?
+

Yes. All plans are month-to-month with no lock-in contracts. Cancel or downgrade from your account settings at any time. You'll retain access to your paid features until the end of the current billing period.

HR Consultants
How are consultants vetted?
+

All consultants in the LilyHR marketplace must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Accreditation from a recognised HR firm, OR
  • Minimum diploma in HR or related field from a recognised Canadian university, plus 3+ years of professional HR experience

Every applicant goes through a credential verification process, professional background check, and trial assessment before being approved. Consultants are subject to ongoing quality monitoring through client feedback.

How much does a consultant session cost?
+

Sessions start at $80/hr, billed to the nearest 15-minute interval. Consultants set their own rates above the minimum. Growth plan includes 1 session per month; Pro plan includes 3 sessions per month, additional sessions are billed at the consultant's rate.
